makuu™ + KasvuOpen: What we learned by asking ourselves uncomfortable questions about the future

makuu™ Community Blog

We applied to the KasvuOpen program — Finland’s largest growth coaching program for companies — to challenge ourselves with tough questions:

Why this product? Why would anyone choose us? What makes us different? Why would we survive when others don’t?

We’re still preparing for the official sparring round, but the first connections and feedback have already given us clarity. And clarity is everything.

Because true growth starts with a mirror.

Makuu was born from a feeling — the feeling that home can move with you.
It’s not a place. It’s a state of being. A feeling of peace, warmth, and touch.
You can unfold it on a boat deck in the middle of the sea. Or in a forest cabin. It’s not “home” — it’s the atmosphere we wrap around the body.

We believe that every moving home — whether a yacht, camper van, floating hotel or seaside house — should have a place for Makuu bedding.
Because our products bring that soft, grounding presence that says: you are home.

We craft our bedding from:

  • Hemp — one of the oldest textile plants, used for the first sails and rigging,

  • Sustainable and regenerative fiber — grows without pesticides or irrigation, even in northern climates,

  • Naturally breathable, antibacterial, and deeply tactile — made for sleeping under stars or beside a quiet bay.

We’re not aiming for mass production. Our focus is on pre-orders and partnerships: with boat builders, van manufacturers, boutique eco-hotels, and architects designing mobile, modular living spaces.

And in the long term, we dream of participating in local hemp farming and processing initiatives in Finland, supporting a circular and truly Nordic textile future.

Makuu is still in its early days. But we know where we’re going.
And if you resonate with our mission — join us.
If not — just watch. We’re growing. Softly. Steadily. Toward the light.
