Hemp fabric care guide: How to wash, dry and store makuu™ hemp bedsheets.

The essentials of efficient hemp fabric care:

Hemp is known as a very strong fiber. However, it’s important to understand that carefully crafted items made from any natural fiber require special attention and care. When it comes to maintaining your hemp bedding, simplicity is key. Here’s a quick guide to caring for your hemp fabrics:

  1. Pre-soak: Hemp resists moisture but is a stiff fiber, which is why we recommend wetting the product before its first wash. This helps prevent pilling on the fabric. Fill a small container with lukewarm water, submerge the hemp item, and let it soak for about 10 minutes.

  2. Quick machine or hand wash: Hemp fabric is easy to clean. A quick wash at 40–60°C is sufficient. Choose a mild, eco-friendly detergent and avoid bleach or fabric softeners, as they can coat the fibers and reduce breathability. Use a short spin cycle and pull the seams straight after washing.

  3. Drying: Hang outside or in a well-ventilated area to dry. If using a tumble dryer, select a “linen” or low-heat setting and remove the items while still slightly damp. Hemp’s porous fibers allow for quick evaporation, significantly reducing drying time.

  4. Ironing and storing: Iron at a low temperature while the fabric is still slightly damp. Store in a dry place, ensuring the sheets are fully dry. Avoid keeping hemp fabrics in plastic boxes or bags, as plastic hinders the material’s breathability.

Remember, hemp is a durable material that gets even better with use! With proper care, it retains its quality and charm over time.

Experience the convenience

With hemp bedding, you can enjoy easy care and quick drying, making it an ideal choice for those with busy lifestyles, living in humid climates by the sea, or unconventional settings like a boat or campervan. Say goodbye to daily laundry hassles and hello to fresh, breathable bedding that’s always ready when you are!

Fresh air: Take advantage of fresh air and sunlight! If you’re on a boat or lack access to a washing machine, simply place your hemp bedding outside to air out. Sunlight and fresh air not only eliminate odors but also naturally sanitize the fabric. Note: Extended exposure to direct sunlight may cause colors to fade. Half an hour is enough, or as soon as the fabric feels dry and refreshed.

Softens with use: One of hemp fabric’s unique qualities is that it becomes softer with every wash and use. Unlike other materials that may stiffen over time, hemp retains its softness and comfort, making it even more enjoyable with repeated use.

Minimal ironing required: Hemp fabric has a naturally relaxed appearance, so ironing is unnecessary unless preferred. Embrace its natural wrinkles and enjoy their unique, effortless charm!
