It has been a full summer for makuu™ — boats, roads, changing places and plenty of opportunities to see our textiles outside the carefully styled world of product photography.
One of those journeys took place with Touring Cars. We travelled with makuu™ hemp bedding and towels in one of their motorhomes, using them exactly as they are meant to be used: sleeping, swimming, going to sauna, moving from place to place and occasionally leaving clothes on the bed.
Real life, in other words.
The trip also gave us a chance to notice the small practical things. Temperatures changed considerably along the way. Some nights were cold, some days hot. Laundry was possible, but most mornings it made more sense simply to shake out the bedding, air the motorhome and continue the journey.
Our hemp towels turned out to be particularly useful. The large 100 × 180 cm towel moved between sauna, beach and motorhome, becoming a wrap, an extra layer or even a temporary sheet when needed. In a small travelling home, versatility suddenly makes a lot of sense.
Now the journey continues in a slightly different setting.
After first appearing together at Matkamessut in Helsinki earlier this year — and then actually taking makuu™ on the road — Makuu × Touring Cars are coming together again at Caravan 2026 in Lahti, 24–27 September.
This time, visitors can find makuu™ textiles inside Touring Cars motorhomes and experience the material in the kind of space it was made for.
For us, that progression feels meaningful: first showing it, then living with it, and now bringing what we learned back to the show.
