Conscious Design for a Better Sleep

We recently visited a packaging exhibition in Warsaw, not to follow trends, but to observe and better understand how products are presented, protected, and what happens to packaging once it has served its initial purpose. It brought us back to a simple question: what should packaging really be?

In many cases, packaging is designed for a single moment — the moment of opening. It creates a visual impression, sometimes even a sense of occasion, but very quickly loses its relevance. After that, it becomes something to dispose of. For us, this has never felt quite right. Packaging should not exist only for presentation; it should make sense before, during, and after the product is used.

At Makuu, we see packaging as an extension of the textile itself — something that travels with the product, protects it, and continues to be useful in everyday life. This is why we chose to use 100% hemp fabric bags. They are simple, durable, and designed to stay, not as an extra, but as a natural continuation of the product.

We often recommend using the bag for storage, for example to keep bedding together when not in use, or as a laundry bag. It can also travel with you, holding clothes or essentials, adapting to different routines over time. In this way, it becomes a quiet, practical part of daily life rather than something temporary.

At the moment, our products are packed in reusable 100% hemp fabric bags and simple paper mailers. There are no unnecessary layers or decorative elements — only what is needed to protect the product and allow it to arrive safely.

For us, sustainability is not about labels, but about decisions. It is about reducing what is unnecessary and creating things that last longer, things that people keep and continue to use. A fabric bag is a small example of this approach. It does not end its life when the product is unpacked — it simply changes its role.

We are still learning and refining how we do things. Packaging is not separate from the product; it is part of how the product enters your life. At Makuu, we will continue to keep it simple, functional, and honest, in line with how we approach materials, textiles, and the spaces they belong to.
